Two weeks ago I had a new oil pan installed as the prior one was badly dented and leaking. New pan hold 5q of oil. I went to check the oil after install and the dipstick was dry. Dipstick appears to be aftermarket. Tube is very long and stick actually only goes in to the engine 6 inches. I bought a replacement dipstick and tube today and they are very different from what's on currently. It appears the new stick goes in to the motor 13 inches.
I don't think there is any way I can get the new dipstick in without pulling the headers off and not sure I want to take that on right now. But I need to be able to check the oil. Oil pressure gauge does work. One thought I had was taking my small pipe cutting tool and cutting the tube down but I'm not sure the exact length the dipstick should be inside the engine.
I open to all thought and ideas on this. Truck isn't leaking oil but I know it's still burning some off.
