The assembly may rattle a little with the spring pulling away from the pin, but that is much better than not opening all the way.
The one I payed the exorbitant extra 8 dollars for from a vendor comes off the spring when warmed up as well. The rattle appears to be in sync with the rattling tailgate, so it goes unnoticed.
