Always, when biding at an auction and having others biding against me, I respond with a higher bid very quickly which will suggest to other bidders you mean business and are willing to possibly continue to bid to an amount higher than they are willing to bid. Have the maximum amount you are willing bid fixed in your head before the biding starts and don't exceed that amount.
