I believe it's for the V series engines. To help promote scavenging of the exhaust gasses. X pipes = more top end pull if you have the ponies to worry about it. On a stock/mild build I wouldn't waste the money as there will be little to no noticeable benefit. Not trying to burst your bubble.
The equal length is for the header tubes. Good luck with your project.
