At one time, there was a factory fixture used to check the position of the dipper in relation to the troughs in the oil pan, but they're scarce as a chicken with lips these days. A couple of framing squares and a string can be used to measure the height of the dippers above the oil pan rails, then a measurement can be taken from the pan flange to the troughs to see if the measurements correspond. It's a little time-consuming, but necessary if you have any doubts about the dipper/trough interface.
Another important measurement is the spray pattern of the oil from the pipes alongside the edge of the pan. Scribe an "X" directly across from each nozzle and attach a water hose to the supply tube. The water stream should hit the center of the X- - - -if not, bend the pipes until they do. At speeds above idle, the oil sprays directly into the dippers due to increased volume from the oil pump.
