My opinion is that any filtration is better than none. It is true that Chevy went decades with no factory filter, relying of frequent oil changes BUT during that time engines typically needed rebuilt after relatively few miles. I'm sure there are others who have differing opinions and I'm sure you'll see them in this thread.
