I am looking to install a SM420 4 speed trans into a 1942 Chevy truck bell housing. There is a 5/8" thick adapter plate to match both the trans and the bell housing made by Vintage Metalworks. If I don't use the adapter plate I would be needing to redrill the bell housing so I can mount it to the SM420 trans along with enlarging the center hole on the bell housing to mate with the SM420. My question is with the adapter plate the trans would now be moved back 5/8" and the input shaft is now only 1/4" in the pilot bearing what problems are there with the clutch and pressure plate if any. Is there any thing I am missing. 1-262-392-2989 or [email protected]
