I've always put batteries right in and started using them, if it was only part charged the ammeter would have pegged for an extended period .... has never happened, work fine from the git go and always work fine for years, hot or cold .... OTOH, we're not talking Harleys here, those dealers and their batteries may come from a different planet wink besides, the OP found and fixed various problems, none of which involved the new battery
