They let a lot more light through than glass. #2: Check your bulbs. If you have this type of tail light use a #81 for the tail light and a #1129 for the brake light. That will give you a brighter tail light than a 12v #1157 and almost as bright a brake light. #3: Make sure your socket & connections are clean & not corroded. Good clean connections are a must for a 6v system. #4: Paint the inside of your housing gloss white. My 6v tail light on the left with the above noted mods, my modern truck 12v on the right.
