You can install a push button, normally open, momentary switch actuated by foot start pedal to energize the electro magnetic solenoid.(fake foot starter). The actual removable switch on an original foot start starter would not be suitable for your plan. It is however, a momentary switch. You want a robust, heavy duty, sealed version.
