Hy Bigdreamer, I measured a 292 I had here, the pan is 8 3/8" deep, the dipstick tube is 12 3/4" long from the engine block surface to the tip, the dipstick is 21 3/16" from the tip to the edge of the metal cone which slides over the dipstick tube, the full mark is 19 5/8" from the metal cone, the add mark is 20 1/4" from the metal cone, hope that helps.
That is EXACTLY the info I needed !!!! The tube in the current 250 is only 5 1/4 long and I nearly have to stand on my head to reach down for it. I have an ad in the "wanted" section for a 292 dipstick assembly.
