The fender braces on '46 models are on top center. At least some of the earlier ones have the braces mounted about half way between top center and rear bottom.
In addition to the post 1941 fenders having a different brace placement, I have also noticed that they have two additional bolt holes to hold the fender to the bedside. These later fenders also have a piece of sheet metal welded to the flange on the rear underside to reinforce it.
