My idea on restoring this truck was not as a complete antique restoration.I had in mind repairing it for daily use in my job as a carpenter. That is the reason behind the wooden box on the back.It is to hold my tools. Eventually I will look for a shortbed to replace the box when I retire. The truck has a lumpy texture but I like it as it is. I'll pretty it up as money and oportunity makes it possible but I plan on driving this truck and only this truck as long as we both survive.
The condition was not real bad when I got it considering it has been out in a field for years. Alot of surface rust which I removed with an orbital sander. Painted everything with Rustoleum spray can paints, primers and anti rust products.I replaced all of the glass except the back window and all the rubber in the cab.Went through the brake system and installed all new shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and hoses. Went through the fuel system also.Cleaned up the interior and gauges and installed things that were broken or missing.
The 235 had been transplanted by PO,also the transmission(4sp)drive shaft and rear axle(4:11).The PO rebuilt the motor and guessing from the way it runs it doesn't have alot of miles on the rebuild.
Now that I have gotten most of the bugs out of it I'm getting confident enough in it to drive it places. I am happy with it as it now sits but I'm sure I'll be constantly doing some kind of repair but that's one of the main reasons I like this truck. It is mechanic friendly, unlike the stuff they build today.
Thanks for looking. I'll probably add to this later.---Jack before after
