Sometime back I read that you can use 'bearclaw' types from - I think - a VW Jetta. The design is pretty standard. I would give my left a**bone for a proper fitting and latching door.
You may be able to make them work, if you do it post your results.
The appeal of the Altman kit is that someone else already did the engineering for you.
