I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think those motors run on little bronze bushings. Sometimes there is a small felt pad sandwiched in with the bushing that acts as a mini-dust seal AND a reservoir for lube.
If you could get some oil into these felt pads it might save your motor from the dreaded 43 year old 'howl syndrome'. This would probably require disassembly, so it might be too late for the shiny newly painted motor.
