A wire does go to the brake switch. The turn signal switch is sort of the heart of a portion of the lighting system. The same filament is used for stop and turn so if you are on the brakes and have the turn signal on, it "routes" the current to one side for brake and the other for turn. (it's a computer!) The other filament is run and park.
