The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Will a '42 chevy COE start without a battery?

the starter on my new truck, won't turn the engine even though the engine isn't seized (I can turn it by hand).

I don't have a 6volt battery and was jumping the starter with a 12volt battery to test it, but if I want to try and start it can I just pull start it without a battery? or does it need a battery to run?
