Try crossing the S term to the bat. cable term. with a screwdriver or something. That should kick in the sterter if it works & the bat is hot. (Be shure it is in neutral.) The other term. on the push button should go to bat. or ign. switch. You might try diconnecting wires from the voltage regulator & see if the light goes out. The wires could hooked up wrong to the ign. switch. You will need a wireing diagram to trace it.
