It's most likely you just shorted the "batt" terminal to ground. That shouldn't have damaged any components. Did you get all the wires back on the switch properly?
Check for voltage at the coil. If there is none, check wires and ballast resister back to the switch. If there is voltage, check the coil by holding the coil wire close to ground and opening the points with a screwdriver. | | |
