After evaluating the engine and before it is driven I'd replace the entire brake system, including master cyl, lines, hoses, wheel cyl, linings - everything.
Not cray about disc brakes, the truck seems to loose a little 'flavor' with them, are they bendex brakes? If not, upgrade to them and it'll stop very good.
