i remember when i was a young guy working at the texaco station and the old guys would come in.. part of a regular tune-up would be to pull the pan and "tighten the rods" which consisted of pulling out a few shims or filing down the cap... probably cost a whole 5 bucks..:).. ha ha ha ha
