I thought exactly the same: they would not flash back then. However the folks at the Old Dominion Fire Historical Society tell me the front fender lights flashed alternating right/left on and off and the rear red lights did exactly the same on an Oren fire truck built in Roanoke, Virginia.
Hey, I don't know as I wasn't born yet... I’m still looking for an old truck from 1951 to see for myself before I hook up any flashing lights.
