Papa Ed is right - there has been much posted on how to diagnose Fuel/Gas gauge problems. Before searching, however, it might be good to check the
Gasoline Gauge Problems troubleshooting table in the Shop Manual (below) and also check out
Randy Rundle\'s Tech Tip on Gas Gauge Problems . Randy is the moderator of this Electrical Forum.
The quickest test to see if a gauge is good is to disconnect the lead to the sender at the back of the gauge. If the gauge pegs to full (with the ignition on), you have a good gauge and your problem is elsewhere. If the gauge does not peg to full, the gauge might be bad or you might have other problems. This diagnosis is not simple. The biggest culprit is bad grounds (at the sender, and some say at the gauge).
