Denny: No worries and no swords. I am in construction and many of my practices/beliefs come from my profession. We (construction guys) generally NEVER paint stainless steel and when we do, it is seemingly the first finish to fail. If the paint doesn't see the environment too often, it works better. I once had a client that insisted we paint her nicely brushed stainless railing all around her very large pool area. We used the "proper" paints, technique, you name it and warned her that it would probably not last very long. Two years later, she called saying there were paint problems on the railing. We said "told you so" and ended up getting paid to do it again as she was having a party and wanted the rails perfect. Can't imagine spending $60k every two years on painting stainless steel, but that was the reality.
So, not saying you can't do it, but I won't. Oops, I just realized I painted the center of the stainless glove box door. Well, someone else did (manufacturer), but I redid it.
