I was looking for the pictures of that inside spring a while back and no one had them, that's perfect! You also reminded me to order my springs from JC!
The inside spring seems like it is supposed to help the handle spring back into place. Mine doesn't spring back, and can be over-centered. I think the spring is supposed to combat that. My outside handles don't return all the way even with the anti-sag springs. I might try installing them the way you have and see if it make a difference.
