I figured out what the window regulators do and how they work. My right side window would not stay up. I thought it was the main counterbalance spring but it was the window regulator. I bought a new one but it turned out to be the wrong one so I took both my left and right apart. The regulator has a spring inside that places friction on the outside edge of the regulator. When you crank there is an inside shaft that catches the spring and pulls the spring away from the wall of the regulator. My right side spring was broken, the little nubs were broken off. I was able to bend new ones on the old spring and make it work. I'm still going to try and by new ones but they seem to correctly function by just bending new tabs on the spring.
