Brad's bent defroster inlet vents look like vents shown in the 1953 and 1954 truck heater installation instructions. They are angled (not straight) and the diameters of the inlet holes are different.
The hose-inlet on those vents are directed towards the firewall, as shown in this 1951 installation manual
for air flow heater and also shown here
for recirculating heater.
The smaller diameter vent goes on the passenger side.
