Note the cast linkage arms...a Grigg treatment, borrowed from the Diesel world. The arms have the same on center measurement as the old home-made arms that came with the intake. Grigg sleeved the heim joint side of the arms for a tighter fit. Overhead shot of engine bay with Tom Langdon's 'lamp-top' air cleaners. I replaced the threaded rod (metric) with SAE so I could use the polished brass finials. Driver's side pic. Buffalo Steve fabbed on the four bolt plates on this 50's period Edelbrock intake. Note the horseshoe used to negotiate around the rear electric choke. This rod cannot be eliminated as it provides support to the inner and outer fenders and helps to allign the hood. Heat provided to the intake via a home-made plate on the bottom of the Edelbock intake, this plenum was plumbed to the Fentons. This project could not have been accomplished without the invaluable help of Sweet (who kept me from losing my mind at times, and was there from start to finish) and Grigg III who had constructive suggestions and technical help throughout the project. For more thankyous on the project see the ODSS Homecoming post in the Events Section. I recently returned from a 1K round trip from Charlottesville, VA to upstate NY and averaged 18.7 mpg at mostly 65-75 mph. So worth the effort.

Work of this caliber deserves a kudo! Thanks for sharing. The mileage increase is no surprise. If you want a little bit more give a thought to using an HEI system. Faster starts, warmups and a bit better for fuel economy. The fuel burn is cleaner. If you have never had the chance to meet Cosmo, its worth the trip no matter where you live. The great President of the ODSS is quite a character. He drives his truck daily as his main mode of transportation. It is a vehicle like no other. Every square inch of the truck is utilized and efficient. The clothes pins are to satisfy the rumor to reduce vapor lock, but really its just for show. Like the horseshoe for the cross brace, its just another element to add character to the truck.
Cos, I'm glad the duals are doing thier job. Installing them was a blast. Yes talking you off the ledge a few times was required, but in the end we got the job done!

Ron, all of us respect the 'long distance driver' and your experience of driving that great truck of yours round trip from Indiana to Maryland had us all thinking about the adventure. Like fingerprints and faces our trucks share our uniqueness and yours is very special, created just the way you want it, although your 'road kill guard' might be a good idea.
Sweet, you nailed it with the clothespins, they've been off and on the fuel lines over the exhaust manifold for years. The key to getting those carbs to settle down and idle right was the replacement of the manifold gasket to eliminate the vaccum leak. Think of it this way...the original manifold had one footprint mating to the head, we then introduced the Edelbrock with a new footprint and the gasket now worn with the memory of the first would not sufficiently seal for the new.
As for meeting a fellow Stovebolter I can only say that your life will become even more enriched and you will understand yourself and your goal and purpose with your truck just a little bit better. As president of the ODSS I am a very lucky man indeed.
Regards,
Cosmo

When you're ready we'll smooth out the last of your fuel lines and fittings.

Webers are sure a great impruvement to the original carbs . On the second picture I see you still have the 2 black plugs installed on the intermidiate vacuum ports. These plugs are very soft. A couple of months ago I was driving downhill so I shifted down to second gear,by doing that the engine backfired through the carburator and the black plug went off that way the micture went lean and I lost power.I replaced it with some tight fitting fuel line pluged with a bolt at the other end so I managed to go on to my destination.

Jianis Yep, I dislike those soft plugs intensely. I'll get together with Grigg to sort out a permanent solution that looks a lot better. Kent, I drove up to Binghamton, maybe next time we can meet for coffee in Cortland.
