I check out a few sites and it looks like the pic you posted is a California commercial plate...

Sorry, don't know much about CA plates (although I have a porcelain 1910 one in the barn) but I'm sure we all would like to to see some pics of your truck!!

40casey,
Does your truck have old plates on it? I'd like to get one to match my year truck.

The people at Ca. DMV know the difference between a new/repro plate and an old one.
Dont waste your money or time trying to slip a repro plate past them................

I posted that link because it shows different year California plates so one can see what the plates for a particular year looked like.

I did purchase a NOVELTY plate from that site to hang on the garage wall. ..pic...

I would not take a novelty plate to any DMV....might end up making the real ones.

I used to know this trivial stuff, but time has gotten the best of me. From what I recall, the plate you have is for a pneumatic compressor (fancy name for an air compressor) I bet you only have one plate because these were attached to trailers. You will need two plates for your truck. If you indeed have two plates, then it will be acceptable to be used on your truck if it is not being used by anyone else. I believe that California DMV requires two plates whereas some states only require one if that's the way they originally came.

This guy did a nice write up and should be helpful to you and others that are trying to use old plates on their trucks.

BTW: From what plates I have seen on old trucks, it seems that California DMV doesn't care if you use the original commercial plates or not. I guess as long as they get their extra fees who cares!

But what some have done is if they get a set of originals which are pretty worn yet DMV cleared, have another set made by that novelty outfit and use them on the truck.

I could be wrong but I thought the PC stood for "Pneumatic Commercial" and that there was also a SC or "Solid Commercial". These referred to the types of tires on trucks. The SC's were charged a higher fee because of wear and tear on roads.

Like I said I am not remembering as I used to, you are probably right. I can't find that information anymore, I have to go by memory. There was several other types too, I have one for my CE and the plate includes CE just like the PC plates. I have seen BE too. I know that if you have two plates, in most cases you can use them all.
