I used lizard skin ceramic spray-on insulation underneath the lizard skin sound control. Eastwoods carries both, I bought mine at Carlisle a few years ago. Can't give you a report on the insulation properties but if it is anywhere close to the sound control properties I'll be happy. Rap a knuckle on the roof and it goes thunk - no ringing at all. I had enough ceramic to do the roof and firewall/metal floor of the burb with enough left over to do the roof of my 64 Camino.

Lowes on the shelf in the insulation department or the stick on type in the duct work section. Cheap and works AWESOME

Searching for info on Refectix, this video comparing with AtticFoil popped up.
No first hand experience of course.

highsider - that video is comparing the AtticFoil [a reinforced reflective aluminum foil] to the foil covering only of Reflectix - the Reflictex of use to us is a poly bubble layer with foil on both sides, and you won't be ripping it like he shows - in fact there's also a grade that has 2 layers of bubble, and is what I prefer [used a 100'x 4' roll on my bus, like here], although the double type may not be as available at the box stores

Thanks Bill.
Mine has a headliner, but I have no idea what lies underneath, so I need to learn what is the best material.

I'm still happy with the Reflectix that I started the thread with.

Is there any issue with condensation building up between the roof and the insulation? I would sure hate to see the roof rust from the inside out.

We use a product called Bonded Logic heat/sound insulation on the cars we restore at my shop. It's sort of like the jute padding on the underside of auto carpet kits with a foil backing on one side. About 3/8" thick. We use Dap Landau top and trim adhesive to apply it , but I've done inside of doors and other hard to reach areas with 3M 8088 spray adhesive.
Helps with sound and heat.
Kinda ashamed to say we get it from JC Whitney. We buy it in 4'x 48' rolls, but it's available in smaller quanitities

(like Cletis, I have used the Reflectix and its OK)

I used a foil covered jute like fabric I purchased off Ebay.
it's a sound deadener and heat resistant to 1000 degrees.
It's called Automat. 24sq feet for $30
insulation

Alvin, it's on their site at $216 for a 48 foot roll. Works out to about $1.12/sq ft. Also eligible for free shipping. I usually wait to buy it until a discount coupon shows up in my email and save another 10% or so.

Tried some insulation a friend buys at the shows
Cut a piece and glued it to some sheet metal I had laying
Around it is made with foil on both side and bubble in the center.
Put some heat on the other side and flipped it upside down to simulate when the roof gets hot,the material not only fell off but also the bubbles flattened out
What's up with that bringing that stuff back .tried some other matrial with the jute on one side and glued the jute to the roof side and shines side down works and will invest in that material .
One thing I don't want after doing all this work and have it fall on a hot day
I can hear the wife hon can u hold that side up can't see out the windshield
Yea right call me a cab.

Frank - coming unglued has to do with the glue used, not the insulation .... and enough heat in the real world to melt the bubble layer? hasn't happened on the Reflectix under my rubber floor mat, above the exhaust pipe ohwell
