I bought this truck from South Carolina in 2001, right at the border of North Carolina. I won her off of eBay with only a few pictures. She looked straight in the pictures without major rust. Rust is all you see in old trucks here on Long Island. Being surrounded by seawater and the salted roads in the winter causes all kinds of problems here!
I flew down to my folks in NC, drove 1.5 hours to buy her. I drove her to their house, picked up a U-haul the following day, and trailered her 11 hours up to Long Island.
She is completely original except for her paint, tires, etc. I painted her to get her out of the grey primer she was dressed in. It took me a few years to find the original hood as the original owner (I bought her from the nephew of the original owner) exchanged the hood for a 63-66 model. I also replaced the bed since it was rotted.
She is a little tired now. I need to rebuild the transmission since I lost the sink in 3rd. So the only sink I have is reaching 2nd gear! The engine is giving me problems at 110,000 miles (I have a post up for this). Since this is 1 of 3 trucks, I hope I can find the time to work on her.
The one thing I need to do is give her a name. Does anyone have any ideas?
Here are the eBay pics a couple of her getting home from South Carolina back to Long Island... It was this trip that gave me an appreciation for truck drivers and what they have to do to tackle the up and downgrades, along with other drivers who get in the way of that process. Eventually, I found a big rig to follow, which made the trip a whole lot more enjoyable. I would often be woken up at the rest stops with everyone looking at the truck. That trip was one for the bucket list....
Thanks to everyone at this site for helping me keep her alive!

Russ - Looks good. How did you finish the bed wood? I have been tracking a few different threads on different options. Looks like you have something I would be interested in learning more about?

I sanded the wood, primed and painted it with the same high gloss Rust-Oleum Black as the insides of the bed. Not the spray can type though. I had a gallon for various other paint jobs. I used a roller and brush. The idea was to paint the entire board, front back and sides and those little washer inlays.
Since the bed rails keep everything off the wood, I figured there wouldn't be any chipping. I have more chips/scratches on the bed sides and none on the wood so I think I did something right.
Hope this helps. ..Russ

Not a problem - Ebony has always been a favorite of mine rather than calling something black due to the offensive issue you stated. If you want it to be a girls name try adding some different names to it like "SheEbony" or "EbonyBabe" - see how it changes it - I still like just Ebony though!
Our truck is sorta muscled up so hubby picked BA for BAD [censored] - which could offend some people too so we stick with the initials. Our antique truck plates will be the same BBA 60.
I thought of "Back in Black" but I feel with the tired old 235 in her and basically completely stock, 'Back in Black' is too tuff of a name for her. But thanks for the idea!!
I am heading down to the Carlisle show in PA and plan on picking up a name plate for Ebony.
Thanks again everyone for helping out with the name!

I still have Ebony... 20 years after this post and 24 years of ownership, and she is still going strong. Here is a pic of her waiting for an inspection at my son's job...
I discovered the driver front spindle was loose, and the threads were destroyed. I bought a new old stock (NOS) front spindle off of Facebook Marketplace for $100. Replaced the spindle and removed the original, older drums from the hubs for easier drum replacements.
I also replaced the front hubs with hubs from a 1968 Chevy truck, so I could use roller bearings instead of the stock ball bearings, which seemed to always need adjustment. The roller bearings are easier to get and a lot more economical to purchase. Yes, I still have drum brakes all around.
I am currently replacing the clutch and rebuilding the transmission (Yes, finally). I hope this will improve the ride quality just a little, but no complaints from me. I still get up early in the morning to go for a drive while everyone else is still sleeping on the weekends!

Yeah - things have changed in the picture posting realm. You can post up to 10 pictures in each post and reply, depending on the overall file sizes, but generally you can go hog wild if you like. Would be cool to see some more pics of the truck, maybe doing "truck stuff'.
We even have a place just for that purpose in the General Truck Talk forum in the thread Who uses their truck as a truck?. Hint - just about any activity involving your truck fits the "using the truck as a truck" idea.

Russ - To be honest, I'm not sure that more pics can be added to those old galleries. That's a question for probably Miss Peggy (Peggy M) our Admin.
Here's the link to your "Gallery Page" for folks that may be interested in your original posting. Unfortunate that your older pictures, along with a lot of other folks pictures, hosted at those old sites are no longer available to view.
Perhaps send Peggy M a PM with your question and she will advise on what may be the best way to get more pictures posted on your truck.

Russ, glad to see you are still around. On your Gallery page, the hot link brings the reader back here. That was the purpose of the Gallery Forum -- Bolters could update their story and do Q&A if desired. Some stories, like yours, were placed in the Side Lot (Big Bolts, Tons O' Fun, 60-66, etc.).
Add as much updates as you can here .... and lots of pictures. We all like pictures.
