I purchased my 1939 GMC AC-102 Long Bed 1/2-Ton Pickup in 1993. I had been searching for a 1939 or 40 GMC for a number of years. I finally found this truck sitting in a barn in Nowata, OK. It had not been running in some time, but was in relatively good condition since it had been sheltered. The truck was very complete. The only missing parts were one headlight lens and one hubcap.
Over the next couple of years, we worked on taking the truck apart, taking lots of notes and pictures along the way. The motor was stuck and we found one cylinder full of water and rusted tight.
Over the next decade, family and job moves kept work on the GMC to a minimum.
My son is now 21 and he and I have started back on the truck in earnest. We have the bare frame now cleaned up and ready to paint (see the picture). Our goal is to have the truck done and drive it to the ATHS convention in May 2011 in South Bend, Indiana.
