I'm going to kick off the actual pic posting starting with yesterday's pick-up, transport and staging of my Grandpa Carl's 1951 Chevrolet 3100 (Gdads51) done with the the help and assistance of Steve (KCMongo).

Just a short story to go with the pics. This as the first time in 10 years that the truck has been out in the light of day, actually rolled on pavement and being prepped for showing off at the MBA Roundup.

Was a big grinning moment (or three) to get it out and with Steve's help (can't thank you enough), get it staged at his shop for showing off this weekend.

Hope you enjoy the pics! yahoo

Alvin and I stopped in at Jim Carter's on the way to Mongo's. I purchased a list of parts and met Jim himself. Jim arranged for us to tour his facility, we got run free in the basement, all the used parts are there. Alvin was looking for a windshield frame for his '37, I was just cruising the isles. And there on the top shelf was the Holy Grail, a ,'58- '59 Big Truck front fender. The deal was done and aI toted the fender out with me. Life is Good.. grin

The Canadian connection is here, Jon (panel fan) and his wife Marie have joined in on the fun.

Hope you don't mind. Wanted to add some of the images that Dan sent in this morning. But I don't want to get them out of order.

Just got home from a road trip I had to make and will head out early tomorrow to join you folks.

Dan, really glad you get to show off Grand Dad's truck! We will give it a hard inspection tomorrow.

Craig, Jim is a great guy and really know a lot about these old truck! Good find and save!

John and Marie are there? That is a real treat to meet up with them again. Maybe we should rename to event "The International MBA Roundup"?

Kevin (Shakey61)'s real name is Mr. Wizard. Everybody can learn a lot from the Wizard!

See you all tomorrow.

Got an early morning report from Shakey61.

That's his and Gdads51's trucks on-duty. I hope you can zoom into the pix and see all the details Mongo did to give great welcome.

A "BIG THANK YOU" to Peggy M for grabbing and posting a few of the pics I was able to take but not get posted myself!

Might have been just a little busy as we had I think a bit larger than expected turn-out and well, we were busy - LOL! grin

Pictures (at least ones I took) will posted as soon as I can get them cleaned up and captioned.

I could prattle on about the event (more report details to be posted later), but hope to see some reports back from fellow Bolters on "How did you like the Roundup?".

I want to thank everyone for hospitality, courtesy and great food, even home baked cookies! I spent most of my time gawking in awe at Mongo’s shop, his artifacts, and clever repurposing of old stuff into new uses. I’d have stolen the too-around tractor seat stool if I could. I was especially intrigued by the old truck set up to house the AC unit and the bed served as a porch/deck with bbq grill and chairs. The restroom was cool, I didn’t get pictures in there, but I wanted to. I’m posting pictures around the shop and at lunch time. No captions because I don’t have names for anyone. I’m sure you’ll recognize Wrenchbender.

Glad you got some of the close-up. I was enlarging others' as much as I could to see the walls. grin

Mongo and his wife (and probably kids now) are *amazingly* creative, clever and talented. If he has a spot somewhere on-line where he posts more images, I bet you'd get a big kick out of it. Some of his stuff we've seen that he's done are incredible. (Even the naming of his boys ... you'll have to ask him that. wink )

Roses,

So glad you came with George (Wrenchbender Ret.) on Saturday and that you had such a good time! Thanks for taking pictures and adding in here. We did get to chat for just a bit, but sorry I didn't get to say goodbye when you all had to leave.

I might have been just a bit distracted. dang

Will see you whenever we get to meet up again for another of the yet to happen shows this fall. wave

Thanks for adding these pics Roses! thumbs_up

As you haven't quite got the hang of picture posting with captions yet (it took me quite some time to figure out myself), you could edit your above post and add text to say who that fellow in the 1st pic may be (I know but will leave it to you to share grin ).

For anyone that hasn't been to KCMongo's shop that hosted the "Roundup", the last 4 pics show the remnants of a Big Bolt flatbed truck that have been reused as a combination AC enclosure, shop office entry porch and outdoor BBQ picnic area. Just one of many unique and cool features at his place! cool

Thanks again for sharing these pictures and look forward to chatting more in the future. wink

Thanks, Dan. I caught Wrenchbender out back looking at the old stuff. I noticed that AC in the truck motor bay, then gradually realized what the entire truck was doing sitting there on the ground by that door. Old farm trucks are something I’m very familiar with. My Dad bought a new 1945 KB-5 International, red of course, and from then on, to me, if it’s a truck it has to be red. My parents owned and operated the grain elevator in Tonganoxie, KS for several years, beginning in 1949. Grain came in trucks of every description as well as wagons, even occasionally pulled by horses. My husband and I later operated farm to market trucking business, spread ag lime and bulk fertilizer, and farmed a good bit, also had a tire business where plenty of farm truck, tractor and wagon tires went through. So Mongo’s shop and old trucks made me feel right at home. I spent many hours in spring driving a 1959 Chevy 1-ton pulling anhydrous ammonia tanks around Leavenworth County. Sometimes I hauled grain in the fall, depending on the elevators and grain markets. We had a 10-wheel 1963 International Loadstar, a 1960 something Emeryville 18-wheel that did most of the grain hauling. A 1965 International Loadstar carried the twin-loader for our 1969 Big A fertilizer spreader. Our beginning in business was in 1956 when we bought out a retiring trucker who primarily hauled livestock and water. Hauling water was a busy job pre the rural water districts. Those trucks were mid-1940’s Chevrolets. A new 1957 International was a lemon and didn’t stay with us long. There were a couple of GMC’s and a Chevy cabover along the way, Chevy pickups and a 1979 Chevy van. Oh yeah, we had a car or two. We had farm tractors, of course, some new, many not, some quite old. Thanks for the trip back in time.0

Here is batch 2 with more pictures from our Friday pre-event setup and early guest arrivals. grin

I have no pics from the "evenings events" (sorry, couldn't manage taking pics as well as dinner prep), but suffice it to say we enjoyed some grilled hotdogs, imbibed some libations and may have told a number of stories and tales while getting caught up with fellow Bolters. We even had a few folks from the Genuine Chevy/GMC Truck Club of KC join us! thumbs_up

Hey Dan,

Is the image from first batch, of the artwork display ... is that some of the treasurers you've been scoring on your travel?

Yes Ma'am! grin

All found at various antique shops/malls and usually for just a couple bucks. They are eventually going to get framed. I did let Steve's (KCMongo's) buddy scan them into digital files before the display and waiting on a copy of those files so they can posted for all to see.

I wondered if you are going to decorate your garage now that you've got some space in there with the '51. Need some motivational images. wink

Next and last batch of my Saturday's MBA 2023 Roundup pics for the evidence locker and everyone to enjoy! grin

I do know that Steve (KCMongo) had one of his buddies video recording much of the Roundup, including the Tech Tip Session, Show and Tell and more.

Will have to wait for them to get that video edited and posted via a web link for everyone to catch more of our fantastic Roundup event.

Many thanks for all that helped plan and execute the event and all of our fellow Bolters and guests that graced us with their presence!

This one is in the books as some folks say. Next years will be even better! yahoo

Until we can do this again, enjoy the pics! chug

Even though I had issues with my truck I enjoyed meeting those that I had before and those for the first time. I apologize to 2-Ton about my comment about his pork, it's just that I enjoy a slab of pork. And I do frequently and did so last week.
