I was going to originally buy the door seals for my 49 from Steele Rubber but after checking the gaps in my doors with clay I decided they were to thick and to expensive. I did buy the SoftSeal doors seals and install them only to have to pull them back off as they were to thick as well. I ended up buying some "D" shaped seals off Amazon that would compress down to 1/8". I had to adjust my striker plate on the drivers side only but they are now on and the doors work fine. I am a happy camper.

After it was all said and done I noticed the door sticking out a little but it was a good trade off for having the seals in place and the door closing pretty good.

It looks good to me, good work. I did the same last summer but mine didn't turn out quite as nice as yours.
Thanks for the comment. Wife and I are going out for a drive today with picnic basket in hand. Won't be getting out but we'll set by the river and enjoy the sunny day while we eat our lunch. It's about a 30 mile round trip so it will give me a chance to see if the door seals stopped any of the wind noise coming into the cab.

Well....at 60+ mph the drivers side door is pretty quite with no wind noise. I did feel just a little of air coming in at the bottom rear corner but it was fine. On the passengers side my wife said there was just a little wind noise and a little air coming in near the bottom rear corner of the door but she said it is so much better than before the seals were put on. I'll have to check into that but I really like how these door seals helped with the wind noise. We are all good in the hood ☺

My truck is a bit newer than yours. I bought replacement seals from ClassicChevy truck's web site. I haven't put them on yet tho. do yours just glue on? or is there a rib that they fit over?

I bought some double sided 3M tape. It worked great in most areas but it gets so hot here that it started to come off in spots. I’m not sure if there is better stuff
3M weatherstrip adhesive is essentially contact cement dyed black. It will hold the foam in place until about a week past forever, but if you ever have to remove, you'd better be prepared to repaint. It is by far the best thing to use, however. I'm replacing some I put on about 38 years ago...actual GM made weatherstrip (part number 3986023). That's why I asked what people were using today. The D shaped stuff in theory sounds ok but I haven't tried it.

This morning I put a strip of the smaller "D" shapes seal on the passengers side along the bottom of the cab. It is now seal against seal. That stopped all the wind noise. I am very pleased with how this turned out. If for some reason it comes loose I'll just replace it as it was super cheap. Only time will tell.

I really like this idea. I have tried both sizes of weatherstrip that Steele sells for the 59 and have bad wind noise with both. I frequently drive interstates and turnpike at 70-80 and its a real problem. I will be checking out this solution. Thank you for the information.

These seals are differently worth a try. I had forgot about the seals on my doors until I saw your post as I've been busy on other projects. I went out and inspected both doors and all looks good. I've had the truck out about a dozen time and it's been in the low 90's here so everything seems just as tight and holding good as the day I installed them. Wish I could remember who it was that lead me in this direction on what seals to use. He deserves all the credit on this one.

Just wanted to through in an update on the "D" shaped door seals I installed back in May. The seal on the passengers side by the hinges came loose a couple months ago. I think it may have been my fault of not cleaning the area good enough. I can't get in there with my fingers to clean the area so I had to use a 1/4" dowel rod to shove a tee shirt soaked with denatured alcohol in the area but this time I cleaned it really good. Cheap fix and holding good so far. Once again, time will tell.

Thanks for the update olezippi. This looks like a good option to eliminate cab wind noise given your results. Are you using the lower rubber retainer or just letting the adhesive keep the lower rubber in place?
