But a good tap and die set would be good. I have my grandfather's set. I didn't recognize the brand so I've been using them for trot line weights. Greenfield or something like that. If we need them, we should be able to get them back out of the pond and cleaned up.

I already loaded dial calipers and can throw in a full set of drills up to 1/2 inch.
I can also load up the battery drill with an extra battery, if need be.

Don -- Unless you really prefer using that drill, I think we're set for drills here -- we have battery drills (x2), an air drill, a bench top drill press, a corded drill, and the monster giant prehistoric drill from Heck... plus whatever Hambone brings over. We have a selection of bits, but they run the gamut from cheap to cheaper (working farm not a machine shop ... wink ) so a decent set of bits would probably be a welcome addition to the weekend.

Dave suggested a 27/64th for marking those spots...

If you have a bench grinder, Grigg and I can show you how to hand sharpen a drill bit, 1/4 inch and bigger.
Less than 1/4 inch, my eyes and a steady hand are not as good anymore
1/8, is the smallest I would sharpen years ago.
Biggest is about 3" by hand. In the old shops That's how drills were sharpened fast.

I'll scratch the drill set and battery drill motor off the list.

Seriously, if you have a decent drill bit set, bring it. I have a crappy selection of drill bits. I will gladly take a lesson in sharpening, though.

By the way, the neighbors will be lending us a portable air compressor for the weekend as we are probably going to need more air. smile So add "Stauffer Bros. Produce" to our list of Sponsors smile

Ok
This is what I have loaded so far.

10x10 awning.
Set of 1/2 drive impact sockets.
Tow chain that Ferd drivers use to pull out tractors, big rigs and plow trucks.
Model T jack stands.
Lawn chairs for Tim and I, Leo should already have a couple at HQ.
Floor jack.
High lift jack.
6, one gallon zip lock bags of hickory wafers for smoking.
Two pry bars, one 4' and the other one a 3' crow bar.
Two anvils looking for a new home.
Set of drill bits.
Drill sharpening gage.
Diamond grinding wheel dresser.
Tap and die set.
Set of thread nuts.
A bunch of old machinist tools for Grigg to caress, when he is not making ice cream.

There will be more, by the time I leave the house by 8am tomorrow.

Safe travels everyone!

Don

Yes, SAFETY. We have lots of "children at play" signs for Christmas. We may need to get/make some "Wrenchers on the Loose" for Homecoming.

The good thing that happens here is that once you turn off Rt. 235, you are in SLOW DOWN WORLD. Get behind a buggy and take your time for the last two minutes. THEN you will mentally be ready to have a safe weekend.

Leave your stress mess at 235.

I left my stress in Chevy Chase about 3 hours ago! I'm ready for Homecoming!
See you tomorrow!

Oh yes, and speaking of tools, since the President won't be there in the flesh and there won't be any ceremonial shop towels handed out by the commander in chief himself, I'll bring an extra roll of paper towels to get us by big_eek

Oh funny. I bought some extra paper towels, too - just in case. BUT, I am turning off my official garage rag bag to the shop. We may not have those fancy ones of Cosmo's (although I think we have about 10 from him so far), we will have plenty of rags. And John's got them all in one place, with the other personal grooming aids. smile Glad you're coming early Billy ... I think a few more things need to be set up out there.
