Last summer, after the passing of an elderly neighbor, my husband Jay was helping the estate trustee move some items off of the very cluttered property. He asked what they were going to do with all of the cars and the daughter (who was the sole heir) said she didn't want them and asked if he wanted to buy them. He said he would, but then asked, "How much?" (There were more than a dozen in all stages of disrepair that he could see from where he was standing.) She asked, "Well, how much have you got?" He reached into his pocket and pulled out the only cash he had...$20. He jokingly handed it to her and she took it and said, "Sold!" So, titles were transfered and the sorting began. Over the course of a few months, some cars were deemed beyond repair and were towed off of the island where we live and taken to the junk yard.
There are a few favorites so far, but this one tops my list...No title on this one yet, so I'm making an uneducated guess at its information. I believe it's a 1958 Chevrolet Apache 31 Suburban. Any other ideas? I've only found photos of two identical vehicles online and both were listed as Apache Suburbans (which look distinctively different from a regular Chevrolet Suburban of the same era). Here's the link to the 'Burb and others...
My husband wants to start with the 1965 Pontiac Catalina, but I want to start with the 'Burb. We'll see. We're just finishing the build of his 'dream shop' right now (a 40 x 60 steel building that will also be a living space...his friends think I'm a very accomodating wife...) I can post a link of that too if anyone is interested.
We live on Lopez Island, Washington. It's a small (7 x 14 miles)island located in the San Juan Islands, north of Puget Sound. I grew up on the island (I'm a 5th generation 'Lopezian') and we moved back 3 years ago after Jay retired from the Navy.
Glad to have found this website! Lots of great info and links. Thanks!
