You can jumpstart a 6 volt with 12 volts, but the safe way to do it is with the key off. Use the 12 volt to impart a charge to the 6 volt battery and then disconnect it before you try to start the engine, otherwise you might fry your gauges and generator/alternator.

Back when I was still running 6v, I was constantly jumping my truck with a family 12v battery. Yes, it might not be the best thing for it, but when you are desperate.......

I've had a number of 6V vehicles, and they were all jumped from a 12V a time or 3 - just keep it quick and unlike same to same, do not do it w/ the 12V running, also get the + jumper off the instant the 6V starts - hard to do quick alone, but ya might be able to w/ a tractor

You can start 6V with 12V
You must put one foot in a bucket of salt water to
properly ground you.(Shoe off)
Attach the pos to both posts and neg to the 12V
side
Now this is the tricky part:
You must figure just how many fingers to touch the
6V neg post with to get proper resistance
Note If the resulting spark leaves a black hole in your finger see a Dr as soon as you quit jumping

Joker, you can jump with the 12 volt but likt squeeze said, disconnect the 12-v jumping battery as soon as the 6-v unit starts. Not a problem

Back when I had my 6v VW bug, the darn thing would never start when hot. The battery is under the back seat. So, I had a second battery there that was 12V. I would just flick up the seat behind me and touch the jumper cable to the 12V and VVRROOMM.

Joker, you can do as suggested. Hook the two vehicles together and leave the 12v running for 15 or 20 minutes. The 6v battery will get a real nice charge in that time. If it won't start that way just do a regular jump. I doubt the tractor has too many electronic gauges anyway.

Do the regular jump with the 12v engine off. That way you are only using battery power and not higher alternator power.
