I bought a 1954 GMC while on a motorcycle ride through Colorado Tuesday. It is mostly stock and mostly complete. The engine runs great. I couldn't get it in the saddle bag of the Goldwing so I'm going back with the truck and trailer to fetch it. I seldom checked this forum before but now that I'm a member of the Burb Fraternity I'll be checking in often. There's a lot I need to learn.

That is one nice looking '54 cletis - it looks pretty solid. There's nothing like getting a new toy. Too bad you couldn't have put the cycle in it and brought them both back at the same time, huh? Regardless, it should be a fun trip going to get it.

I like the GMC part! It looks like it came with at least one rear seat. Do you have plans for the burb or are or just going to see where it takes you?

Cletus, take a tape measure with you and measure that frame on the car-port next time you go into town. i got it out of a tf 'burb. it doesn't hurt to start planning now.

First order of business is tires and brakes. Then I'm going to drive it as is and improve things one at a time as I go.
I've had my '54 pick up torn completely apart for over 5 years and it's still in pieces. On the '56 I went the improve as you go route. I've been driving and enjoying it when it wasn't down for improvements. That's my advice to anyone who gets a truck and has the urge to tear it to pieces.
It has what I suspect is the rear seat in the center position. Tony is talking about a center seat frame from a task force. Anyone know if it is a bolt-in replacement for mine?

Colorado seems to be the place for 'burbs lately. I bought mine there not long ago, and i've seen a couple more recently from Co.

I've had my '54 pick up torn completely apart for over 5 years and it's still in pieces. My '54 has been apart about that long too. My Suburban gets few improvments from time to time, but most days I can drive it if I choose. I agree its a much better approach!
Its true, I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...Steve@OldSub.com . www.OldSub.com . www.MaxwellGarage.com . www.OldGasTowRigs.com'55 1st GMC Suburban . '54 GMC 250 trailer puller project. '54 GMC 250 Hydra-Matic . '54 Chevy 3100 . '47 Chevy COE . and more...

I am not sure about the task force seat, I heard they are similar but the mounting might be off. You can modify a front seat to work if you can find someone to bend some tubing for you and with a little welding it will look fine. I actually prefer the long bench seat in the middle position, it allows me to store and haul stuff around.
