Housekeeping (Moderator) Making a Stovebolt Bed & Paint and Body Shop Forums
What Otto said. I picked up my diesel from the shop after they put a transmission in it, and heard a sound i was sure was coming from the passenger door when I fired it up. After moving around a bit, I found the source. Turns out the mechanic had failed to secure the shifter boot to the floor, and the noise was coming thru the opening.

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.

I can’t argue with or refute anything you guys have stated because I am still on the losing end of this proposition.

Presently the seats are out of the truck for the purpose of sound insulation. I will drive it with the passenger seat out (buckets) and continue to investigate. Multiple observers have said that the sound seems to emanate from some point in the upper rear passenger side corner, as though in the B pillar.
I don’t know what could generate such a sound in that structure. Could be referred/ transmitted from another area , as you suggest. Hopefully the sound deadening treatment will make the source more localized and obvious.

While the truck is idling and squawking as you stated in the first post, walk around the truck stepping on and jumping on the running boards, bed, etc.

Can the sound be heard outside the truck? Get a few people to listen in different places while you go around moving or pushing things to see if the sound stops or changes.

Could the headliner bow be moving a little?

Get under the truck and grab your exhaust pipe and shake it. Is it rubbing on anything? Exhaust hangers nice and tight? joints tight?

There is no headliner aside from the sound treatment I implemented 2 weeks ago.
I will check exhaust again; it is almost new and seems tight and first rate. Clearance is good.

I have the opportunity to get the truck on a hoist in 2 weeks.
I will check the rear cab mounts at that time.

I will have the truck up on a hoist in 2 weeks, I’ll inspect the rear cab mounts then.
