Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Fri Jun 29 2018 01:10 PM

So I finally got my dream truck, a early fifties Chevy COE (could have been either a Chvey or a brand F), and I'm looking for folks in my area to commiserate with. Any one out there with a early 50's Chevy or GMC that wants to connect with a crazy old man?

Hi extremek, I bought my 1955 International Harvester 300U near St. Johns, I live between Chelsea and Stockbridge just east of 52. Took the '57 on it's loaded maiden voyage on thanksgiving morning and put 92 bales of hay on her, I was pleased with the results even though it was only a 30 mile round trip.

Hi guys,

I'm in Big Rapids, where I'm a professor at Ferris State (econ and finance). I have a '53 3/4 ton daily driver, with an original 216 (but some upgrades), and my current project is a '46 Fleetline Aerosedan. I also have a '50 Fleetline 4 door and my wife's "new" car is a '67 Chevelle with a 250. Of the 5 vehicles we own, all are Chevys and 4 are Stovebolt 6s!

We have a great cruise-in the first Friday of every month in the summer here in Big Rapids--yous guys should come check it out some time!

Cheers,
Tyler

Tyler,

I graduated from Ferris State, so would like to make it back up there sometime to check things out.
Sounds like I need to mark the Big Rapids cruise down on the calendar for this year.
Let's get some chatter going when we get closer to summer, and get as many area Bolters as we can to participate.

My stock 1946 Chevy two-ton flatbed is over in Bath, and I am sometimes there. Having worked mostly with tractors, I would greatly appreciate some hands-on direction on properly downshifting the 4-speed, or, suggestions on installing a transmission with synchros. In any case, I am interested in connecting with others and talking trucks.

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Tue Jun 18 2019 01:16 AM

Selfishly I vote the Greater Detroit area. smile Lots of coney places to choose from for a cup of coffee.

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Tue Jun 18 2019 09:24 AM

I would like to drive the '57 but if it's more than 30 miles on two lane I would have to drive something else, Western Detroit area, Flint, Lansing area, or anything south of those would work for me.

Great! We have the meeting area. Now a day, time, and exact location.
Saturday morning coffee would work for me, however I am already tied up the next couple Saturdays.
How about Saturday, July 13th at 8am at Brighton Coffee House and Theater. (I have never been there, but it looked interested online, so definitely open to suggestions)

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Fri Jun 21 2019 01:26 AM

I can't do the 13th, how 'bout the second Tuesday of next week, I keep that open for an emergency schedule and I bet no one has anything going on that day.

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Sat Jun 22 2019 10:43 AM

Hmmm....the second Tuesday of next week....agreed nothing on the calendar for that day...
If the 13th doesn't work, how about the 20th?

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Sat Jun 22 2019 03:43 PM

The coffee shop is in old downtown Brighton, nice spot, parking might be an issue if we have a big group. Street parking and a small lot behind the buildings. I can put it on my schedule for the 20th.

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Sun Jun 23 2019 11:21 AM

OK. The 20th of July it is. In the meantime we can poke around to see if there is a better spot to accommodate the gathering.
Another thought is to meet at a car show. We could set up some chairs, drink coffee, talk trucks, and be surrounded by classic vehicles.....
On the 20th, there are shows in Webberville, Howell, and Lake Orion to name a few.

I would be open to Webberville or Howell, or Brighton.

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Sun Jul 07 2019 05:55 PM

The Webberville show looks like a winner to me, so how about we plan on meeting up here?
Its an annual car show at the Vantown Community Church. 3504 E. Howell Rd. Webberville, MI (8am-3pm)
Meet at 8am..ish, set up some chairs, and gab about trucks....

I will be there, and hoping a few others chime in. (my truck is not road worthy, yet, so it will just be me and my lawn chair....)

Tom, I'm planning on the Webberville car show, I have not been to it, do you have a landmark to meet at or should we use phones to zero in.

Re: Looking for fellow Bolters in the Lansing area - Fri Jul 19 2019 12:40 PM

Shade Tree,
I have heard from one other person so far.
So, I believe we are now up to 4 Stovebolters attending the Webberville show.
PM me if you are definitely going, so we can make sure to meet up.

I'm not familiar with the Big Rapids shows.
(Haven't been up that way since my days at Ferris State)
