Well boys, I may very well be picking up a new project this weekend.
Its a '52 5 window one ton. I'm waiting for the estate executor to call me to meet him to take a look at it. The truck was owned by a friend of mine who passed away last Fall and I have seen pictures of them in the past. I hope its still in as good of shape as the pics which he showed me a number of years ago.
The cool thing is that I will own the truck which my friend was so fond of, but never had the opportunity to work on.

Seems like the ODSS AD 1-tons are gaining in numbers.

Hope it all works out for you!

One-Tons Rule - keep us posted Carl.

Still waiting for a call back. It ain't going anywhere. I can wait a while longer.
Posted By: John Milliman Re: new poject! - Wed Jun 24 2020 12:19 PM
Good luck, Carl!

And the good news for you is that the One-Ton Club's Ownership Committee met in special session and we were able to fast track your membership application. We are still waiting on your final application form (that 234-page form you should have received), DNA sample and fee, but I am very pleased to inform you that you have a really good shot at receiving the committee's recommendation for membership when your package is forwarded to the Executive Council for Membership Affairs for final review! Harrumph! So you should be relieved to not have THAT monkey on your back at least.

With the Membership Committee's recommendation for Membership Approval, you are then awarded One Ton Club "Interim Probationary Membership" status. With that in hand, you are allowed to purchase a truck. Whether or not you get to keep the truck depends on the executive council's final decision. Usually, with a good recommendation from the committee and all your paperwork and dna samples in order, there is a 75 percent probability we will grant you full membership... so feel free to make the buy worry free. If you fall into the 25 percent category (But I wouldn't worry about that. Much) we will be glad to help you find a forever home for the truck and happily give you a coupon good for a 10 percent discount in our gift shop in appreciation of your fostering a truck. smile

They wanted a blood sample for the application, not a specimen cup in the mail!

My DNA sample will be saliva, delivered by natural means from 6 feet away to stay within Safe Distancing Guidelines. Beechnut is said to not alter the quality of the sample. Bystanders beware, however.

So John, do you strive to be the best thread thief?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Back on topic and where is the moderator in the ODSS forum?
Carl, sorry I took the Milliman bait and deviated from you getting a 1-Ton.
Keep us up to date on on the progress!

Don, I am a moderator of this forum. Are you questioning the means in which I do my job?? Harrumph. May I remind you who my boss is?. That would be one J. Crosby Milliman.
Also, this thread is about one tons and the One Ton Owners Club and its prestigious membership. Being in the club, I give this thread a lot of leeway. All you can fit in a 9ft bed laalaa

Carl, you are kind of teasing us here though. No pictures, no details, no time frame on when??
Come on, we don't have a ton of stuff to be excited about these days. No truck shows, no get togethers. You are all we got!
Posted By: John Milliman Re: new poject! - Sun Jun 28 2020 11:51 AM
And may I remind you who *my* boss is ???? Don't hate us, Don -- we're all just doing our jobs here. Harrumph indeed!

Chest thumping aside, let's call this pro tempore session of the ODSS Disciplinary Committee to order ... If I may have the floor ...

Mr. Sergeant at Arms, in my appointed office of ODSS Attorney General, it has come to my attention that we have a potentially serious issue before us. To ameliorate and diffuse what could be a very explosive and divisive matter, may I ask that you present President Cosmo with a request to issue a Presidential Order compelling Carl to produce IMMEDIATELY photographic evidence of the truck under consideration by him for purchase/use as grounds for his membership application to the tres exclusive (use of the French language here not only connotes sophistication but also underscores the gravitas .... ooooh! Latin!!! ... of the matter before us) 1-Ton Club? If this request is acceptable, then I so ask.

Furthermore, if Carl does NOT immediately produce the aforementioned imagery, may I humbly petition the court to issue him a *very* stern and stinging verbal admonishment by you (as the foremost officer of the court) and that his ODSS 1-Ton Club Membership Application be immediately sent to the bottom of the stack/possibly "lost"?

I also call for the floor to be closed to further discussion (except by you or Mr. Marlow) as there can be no excuse, no justification for this egregious and outrageous flouting of our time-honored protocols. Harrumph.

Humbly and Respectfully Submitted
by your Obedient Servant,

J. Crosby Milliman
ODSS Attorney General
(Also: First Lord of the Treasury, Commander-in-Chief, Lord High Admiral, Master of the Buckhounds, Groom of the Back Stairs, Lord High Pooh Bah of Stovebolt (both acting and elect) ... all rolled into one and at a salary. I a salaried minion! It revolts me, but I do it!)

Harrumph, etc, etc

Motion granted.

Carl has 24 hours to produce imagery at the request of the Attorney General before The highest commanding officer of the great 1- ton club exercises his authority.

From the desk of the president of the ODSS...

Carl, your ten day 'grace period' of news forthcoming of said 1 ton is drawing to a close @ 2327 hours Eastern Daylight Time, 28 June, 2020.

If no action is taken before said time I will unleash the ODSS 1 Ton Junk Yard Dogs. Note: These dogs are underfed and have been briefed on your appearance from past ODSS get-togethers.

That sleeper looks cool!

What if he just cut and pasted a representative picture from Pintrist to get you boys off his back? I would have thought he would have mentioned a few of the unique details of the truck prior to throwing any-old picture at you. It's yellow, that's a detail that could have provided some verification.
Who does that?

Sort of. The guy who built this truck (a recently deceased friend of mine) came from California, and apparently this type of build was all the rage a couple of decades ago. I know that I would have a hard time sleeping in it.

Title is clear.
Posted By: 52Carl Re: new poject! - Tue Jun 30 2020 04:44 AM
The challenge now is what to do with it.
It will not be a dually stake body with a sleeper, that is for sure.
I am leaning toward a one ton stepside.
The sheet metal is amazingly straight and sound without any Bondo as far as I can tell from a magnet test.
The yellow clearly needs to go.
Posted By: John Milliman Re: new poject! - Tue Jun 30 2020 05:46 PM
Brother Hambone raises a valid point that still needs to be addressed. And the image's "patina" suggests that it may not be a recent image. I think we need to see a recent image that clearly shows Carl standing next to the truck. Maybe a hand written note from his wife that attests to legitimacy.

You can't really knock Carl for possibly resorting to desperate measures here ... membership in the 1-ton club *is* highly sought after. Many are called, few are chosen ...
Posted By: ndkid275 Re: new poject! - Tue Jun 30 2020 10:50 PM
General Milliman,

I request that you add a few details to your request. Telling him that he needs to stand next to the truck leaves many undesirable options open. I suggest adding while ... maybe holding up a printed paper with date of picture.

Just a thought,

Chris

Well I can tell you this, if y'all woulda had a widow open, 3 States away, you coulda heard my wife screaming the other day when she overheard a phone conversation about me buying another truck.
No worries though. I am known for, on a pre-emptive basis, to purposely screw up in a semi-major way every couple of months to give the little lady something to crow about, leading to her leaving me pretty much alone about the minor things for a couple of months.
I did tell her that she is right. I should give up my truck building hobby and go back to my womanizing and drunkardly ways. She didn't laugh near as much as I had hoped. Maybe got an extra month of nit picking reprieve out of that one though.

Carl, this brave admission with some truths, half-truths, outright lies (none but you know the real from the fabricated), has, IMHO, won you the title 'KING OF THE INTERNET' for a day.

It was a great laugh and I thank you for it!

Good strategy Carl!
That's the same one I use. My wife knew how I was before we started dating.
So as long as the bills are paid and I'm not chasing or running the bars anymore, she lets me be.
Plus, you can buy a lot of toys with the money you save from just working in the shop and not running.

Not so fast. The cab appears to have come from a 3/4 ton. Now there is the matter of the rest of the truck.
THIS ISN'T OVER!

But if it is, I'm OK with that too.
I've got bigger fish to fry.
My wife is as mad as wet cat gettin' slung through a draft under a door big enough you could sling a dead cat through it.
(No animals were harmed during this phraseology.)
No wet cats were actually slung. The draft under the door is of the minimum size required for a dead cat to fit through, if one were to die of natural causes and slung in the general direction of said draft.

P.S.
Snitches get stitches. You know who you are...

Measure the wheel base...125" = 3/4 ton, 137" = 1-ton.

Carl, if you're saying that you WANT me to prosecute you for something, I can certainly oblige. I was just trying to be friendly here. Anything in particular? We could start with metaphorical postmortem cruelty to felines (whilst merely *swinging* deceased felines in an attempt to illustrate abundance of something is actually an accepted and widely practiced ODSS recreational activity, launching felines in a postmortem state ballistically under partially open doors is an entirely different, and frowned upon, matter ... nono)

"Trying to be friendly", hmmm, I will need to break out The Webster's Collegiate for that one. I am pretty sure that I do know the meaning of "friendly".
Perhaps at issue, is the voracity at which one is applying to the "trying" part.
As far as deceased feline draft gauging, that was all that we had available in the mud hut in which I was raised.

I hereby retract my application for entry to the One-Ton Club Membership for which I never actually participated in applying for.
The truck in question, though a fine example of creative craftsmanship, is nothing more than a 3/4 ton stretched by 24"
My sincere apologies to the panty wadded, hound running, willy-nilly man purse swingers for letting them down with the revelation that this truck is indeed, not a one ton.

Congratulations Carl on the 3/4 ton purchase. Don't let the one ton club bully you. They don't have any one tons that cruise, burn tires, and hold someone's attention in the quarter mile like your half ton !..... Maybe there should be a special club for refined/improved half tons !!

Carl,

On behalf of my fellow panty-wadded, hound-running, willy nilly purse swingers, let me extend our sincere appreciation for your concern for our mental well being. We will reverently place your application in the round file with deepest regret. I had already ordered your monogramed will nilly purse, too... Alas ... what might have been ...

Since I personally don't care for the look of the 3/4 ton pickup (can't explain why), I am now leaning toward creating a shortbed 3/4 ton out of what I have.
