I've looked for and at different front axles for many years now. In my opinion the best fit (because truck is narrow) is the original axle, or one from same body style truck, larger or possibly smaller.
The sticky thread about axle and brake swap stuff is most all of what I know on the matter, and the short version is...
A 2 ton axle beam for your model truck will fit, (possibly even from 48-53?). With that axle beam you can adapt P-30 spindles, hubs, and brakes with very little effort.
See info and measurements in the sticky thread.
Wheels and tires have options too, and much info and discussion Here
Short version... 19.5" wheels may not fit over your rear drums, or they may, better check.
If they do fit they need a bushing to adapt the 5.25" center bore to your 4.75" hub (nominally).
19.5" wheels with 8R19.5 tires, as tall as fit the wheels, are still only 32-33", and may look small, it's up to you.
The original 20" wheels if in good shape can still be a good option.
22.5" wheels in this 10 lug on 7.25" bolt circle are old and hard to find, but do exist. 9R22.5" tire is about 38" tall.
