1952 Chevy 1/2 ton yokes - Sat Aug 10 2019 05:13 PM

Anyone might be able to point me in the right direction where to find the yokes between a SM420 four speed and the drive shaft on a 1952 Chevy 1/2 ton truck with the closed drive shaft?

Post a Want Ad in the Swap Meet.

I do not recall seeing them listed a new reproduction part.
Check the Chevs of the 40s on-line catalog.

Maybe call Jim Carter Truck Parts (he sells used parts - I bought a set from him many years ago).

Try sending a PM to "KC Mongo". I believe he had one available back when "Green 98" was looking for a yoke, and we managed to find one a lot closer to us than Kansas City.

Yes, Jerry helped me tremendously in my search for a yoke. I will dig back through my email as well, because I did find one gentleman that ended up having one he would sell, but as I recall, he was impossible to get on the phone.

There was another guy in Oklahoma that has one he will sell. Tom Meyer 918-542-3871. Miami OK. $200 as I recall.

BTW, the rear half of the U-joint is the same for 3 and 4 sped transmissions. The SM-420 has a different front part of the joint than the 3 speed, however. 420's can be converted from open driveline to torque tube applications and back by simply changing the rear bearing retainer. That bearing retainer, which also serves as a pivot point for the torque tube ball, is another scarce part.

Thanks a lot green 98. I even tried calling a company in Sweden that had it posted on their website, but no luck there either. Turned out to be a discontinued ecklers part they had resold.

Thanks a lot for that info Jerry, didn’t know that. That opens up some possibilities.

Your right Jerry, I have purchased ten sm420s last year and only one had the rear bearing retainer for a torque tube and the front yoke. I had an extra that I sold to a fellow member here for a 50 spot and you would of thought I gave him the crown jewels.
