New Member in NC w/'41 Pickup - Wed Nov 13 2019 06:51 PM

Got a retirement project,
1941 Chevy 1/2 Ton Pickup (AK)

Want to rebuild existing 216 ci. engine. BUT its a mess, so I'm exploring purchasing one in better condition,
I hear they are all over the place, but I must be looking in the wrong places.
Any suggestions? Thanks...............

What parts do you need? I have several 216's in the scrap pile but no precautions were taken to protect them from the weather. One with a new carb, generator, starter, fuel pump, water pump, and gaskets appears fresh but it is split down the whole left side from freezing. It's been in the pile since last summer without a valve cover so who knows? If your block can be bored and babbited it might be of some use.

Welcome to Stovebolt.com

We are about 100 miles from each other.

If you want to contact a specific member about parts, do it in a Private Message.
Any Person-to-Person conversations/negotiations should take place in Private Messages.
If you want obtain a part (like obtaining an engine), do it in in a Parts Wanted ad.
If you want to ask about vendors of specific parts, post those questions in the General Forum.

I think you have to make about 5 posts before you can PM or place a Want Ad?
So, posts about your truck and where/how you found it, and what you want to use it for, and what you need to do with/to it.

Check out the Tech Tips for all sorts of advice/information (a lot of questions can be answered there):
"Getting Started" in the Tech Tips is a good place to start.

Welcome to the β€œBolt”! A wealth of knowledge is at your fingertips and all you have to do is ask!

You may consider a later 235. I not sure but I think a β€˜53-β€˜54 may just bolt in and is a full oil pressure engine. Maybe, another more knowledgable expert could chime in. A later 235 would also work with a few modifications. These are definitely more abundant and easier to find. They were made up to β€˜62.

1954 was the first year for high-pressure 235 engines. There might be a few 1953 car 235 engines that were high-pressure oil systems.

As Phil posted, post 1954 and post early 1955 235/261 engines need to have their water pump location modified (for appropriate cooling).

Welcome to the forum Semo!

There are a few later model 235's for sale around me from the $100-$450 range if you are thinking about swapping in a newer motor.

Always good to see a fellow North Carolinian on here. I'm a fur piece from you in Allegheny County, extreme Northwest corner of the state in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
