is there a way to positively tell the difference between reproduction hubcaps and the original ones. From my 1941 chevrolet pickup.

The original hubcap will have an outer skin crimped over the inner actual hubcap. The reproduction hubcaps are only one layer.

Not true, my repros have an outer skin crimped over the inner cap as well.

All the originals I've seen have the letters BLC stamped on the inside cap, which was probably the vendor GM sourced them from. Some have Made In USA along with the BLC mark.

Must be different than the AD caps then. The four repops that I bought from Chevy Duty for my 50, 3600 were all single layer. I'll try to post a couple of pictures later. http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/152778730 http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/152778731I don't have an example of the Art Deco hubcaps so you obviously have a better handle on the earlier reproduction hubcaps than I do. Sorry for misleading the group. How's it goin' Bob, anything new going on in your shop??? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I'm sure there are vendors that do it the cheap way and those that do it the right way. On this old stuff it's hard to know what you'll get.

Hey there GMC, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of those double layer reproduction hubcaps would you??? I'd like to add that to my reference files. Also it would be helpful to know where you got them from so the next guy can get ones that are more like the original ones. Thanks Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Thanks Denny Graham Sandwich, IL I don't have a picture of the back side of them. I'll try to get a picture when I can get easier access to the truck.

If you can take your hubcap to a local sign place they should easily be able to make you decals in the correct color. The letters on my hubcap are painted or something and I think most aftermarket ones are, so you may not find the vinyl letters from a vendor.
