putting the harness together on this 49 Pickmeup, had the Gauges redone by jim carters, the ammeter has no plus or minus on it, WHAT to do? The book shows plus and minus but no marking on the Back of the gauge in the ammeter area!

Go by the marking on the front of the guage.

Try it and see. You won't destroy the gauge by hooking it up backwards.

bodiman,

I think cletis is correct. If the front of the meter has a - and + on the front, which it should, use a marker if you need to, and put those corresponding marks on the rear posts for reference. Battery would go to + side and any load would go to the - side. smile

Now make the gauge w/ a pen. A very important tip:
Cover those two lugs w/ a plastic cover or two layers of heat shrink. Both are HOT 12v terminals.

if its backwards just reverse it.. the needle will then reverse also....the needle is kinda like a teeter totter..it goes to the side with the most potential.... its not polarity sensitve...
