Can a 6v generator out of a 41-46 1/2t be converted/modified to provide 12v?

prolly by a shop, but all ya gotta do is get a 12v gen and stick it in - I had a local shop convert a GM internal regulated alternator to 6 volts for my 46, and never had a bit of electrical problem afterwards grin

I was just reading a tech article by Patrick re: Converting generators 6v to 12v...he says to replace the 6v field coils with 12v field coils and slip them back in the 6v generator frame and you're all set.

When I was a kid my daddy had a 53 GMC and all he did was change the regulator to 12v and used the 6v generator, never had any problem with it.

There is a company that converts 6v or 12v generators to 12v alternators that look just like the original.
