I'm wanting to add a bed mounted winch and some extra lighting to my '62 one ton flatbed. The truck has its original wiring harness, was a 235 but now has a 283. I'm looking for an electrical system that can handle the loads from using the winch for pulling heavy loads. Do I need a new harness?

if the existing harness is in good condition, all you need is to use wiring properly sized for what you add, a good battery, and a good charging system, which might mean that you want to swap your generator to a higher output, or [preferable] go with an alternator
