I recently purchased a 49 5 window 1/2 ton from a party in Oklahoma The title has the engine code # and not a vin number. Is the original vin # located anywhere on the truck beside the plate on the door? This plate was removed sometime. Is there a vin # on the frame of the truck?

First, no such thing as a VIN in 1949. You had engine numbers and manufacturer's ID numbers (on the door plate) and different states used one or the other when titling the trucks.

As to your actual question, the manufacturer's ID number only appeared on the door plate. For the entire AD series (47.2 - 55.1) there was no ID number on the frame.

More accurately there was nothing CALLED a VIN in '49. As you found out most states used the engine number as what is now called the VIN through '55. FYI this isn't the forum for your question. This forum is for computer technical questions. This thread will probably get moved when a moderator finds it.

Good point, Tiny, I should have been a bit more specific. Thanks.
