Our 51 3/4ton is ready for a new master cylinder with power booster. My first job today was to put the truck up on jack stands. I purchased a hydraulic jack at sears, 12,000 lbs. Figured it would do the job. It doesn't fit under the front axle, at 9" tall it misses by an inch or more. I moved things around and got the truck up on jacks but I started thinking what was the original jack like? was it a bumper jack, a scissor jack? was it stored under the seat? did the trucks even come with a jack? couldn't find anything in the shop manual or the operator's manual we got last week. Anyone with the original equipment out there? Martin

I don't know what the 3/4-ton had, but if it was the same as a 1/2-ton it was a simple screw jack looks a bit like the bottle jack you just bought, but a few inches shorter.

Having owned a few street rods that were very low I always drove them up on a2x4s so I could get my floor jack under the front end.

3/4 ton came with the same screwjack as the 1/2 ton.

If you need a replacement screw jack - hit a salvage yard, most trucks came with them, either inside, or clamped to the inner fender. The pic's that Steve posted looks just like the unit in my old '78 Dodge, the '81 Chev that I have for parts, and the '73 Ford that I worked on. (I think they used the same vendor)

I really need to get a jack for my Suburban. I've never looked at later Chevy jacks, but the one for my '01 Dakota (and '97) was a scissor jack, with the lug wrench doubling as the crank handle. What I like about them is that the lug wrench and all the sections for the handle come in a decent, lined pouch. Stores neat, andthe lining keeps them from rattling. Probably a king's ransom at the dealership though!

Checking with my local pick-a-part salvage yard, they wanted $5 for the jack, handle, and lug wrench.
Just an FYI
